The NYC Service Fellowship is a one-year program offered to recent bachelor level graduates (no more than 4 years out of college) and provides a unique opportunity to obtain practical City government experience in the areas of volunteerism and service at the City level.

The centerpiece of the program is a full-time professional work experience at NYC Service as Program/Initiative “Coordinators” working on the office’s national service programming, volunteer program development and management, volunteer capacity building, or public/private partnerships work.  The mission of NYC Service is to promote volunteerism, engage New Yorkers in service, build volunteer capacity and mobilize the power of volunteers and national service members to impact New York City’s greatest needs. Each NYC Service Coordinator reports to a direct supervisor, but also works with other members of the NYC Service leadership team and staff on a daily basis.

Focus areas include:

-Volunteer Strategy & Development Coordinator: One individual will serve as an NYC Service Coordinator for volunteer development programs, reporting to the Volunteer Strategy & Development Director and working closely with three NYC VISTA Members.

-Cross Service Year Programming Coordinator: This individual will focus on creating and managing programming across NYC Service’s four service year programs.

-Cross Service Year Recruitment & Alumni Coordinator: One individual will focus on service year program recruitment for four NYC Service administered programs.

-Capacity Building Coordinator: One individual will serve as coordinator for critical NYC Service capacity building initiatives that support nonprofits and City agencies across the City, reporting to the Chief of Staff and collaborating with other NYC Service staff, including an NYC VISTA focusing on Capacity Building.

NYC Service Coordinators, in addition to meeting all other stated requirements, must have one year of service-related work experience. Priority will be given to those who have completed a national service program, i.e. AmeriCorps State and National, VISTA, NCCC, etc.

This is one-year program and it is focused on a full-time work experience. The 2017-2018 program year begins in August 2017.  NYC Service Coordinators in our program are paid a taxable stipend of $51,502 and receive a choice of paid health insurance plans (housing is not included).

If accepted in the NYC Service Fellowship Program, please note that you must be a City resident or become a City resident within 90 calendar days of the date of appointment.  NYC Service Coordinators must meet the eligibility requirements to work in NYC, i.e. full compliance with the I-9 form from US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
