What You'll Be Doing:

As an Outreach Communication Manager, you'll conduct targeted employer and partner outreach to encourage organizations to implement employee commute programs that promote the use of green transportation modes such as ridesharing, transit, biking, walking and telework.  The outreach performed by the Shared Mobility Outreach Manager is part of the 511NY Rideshare program, which is a transportation demand management program (TDM) sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). You'll be responsible for contacting and meeting with potential partners regarding the implementation of sustainable transportation services offered through 511NY Rideshare.  



What You'll Need:

You should have a Bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience in conducting outreach in sustainable transportation or a related field.  Experience with outreach involving changing travel behaviors through transportation demand management is preferred, but outreach in a related field in areas such as sustainability, mobility, and the environment will be considered.  Excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong inter-personal skills are required. You will be expected to work as part of teams to execute tasks that support the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services. This position will be based in Westchester County, NY.

Experience in some of the following areas is preferred:

  • Supporting deployment of operational programs, products, and services that reduce SOV commuting and vehicle miles of travel (VMT) including special attention to congested travel corridors and regions.
  • Public relations, marketing, market research, training workshops, and innovative techniques to promote participation in programs.

  • Having a fundamental understanding of funding, public private partnerships, grants program, corporate based leasing agreements and innovative, flexible pricing, subsidy, and funding sources and mechanisms for capital expenditures and operations.

  • Commanding a knowledge of appropriate mixes of TDM/Commuter Choice activities for different traveler, commuter, employee, and employer situations, and how effective techniques can be applied and evaluated.

  • Ability to demonstrate local knowledge/experience of commuting habits in the region and/or comparable regions.

  • Working with the business community, local / regional organizations, transportation information programs such as 511, transit providers, and other TDM service providers.
