Job Summary & Essential Functions: The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position.

The Planner Engineer is responsible for reviewing and interpreting customer requirements. Examples include Request for Quote/Proposal, contracts, purchase orders, electronic or hard copy drawings, Parts Lists, Bill of Material, specifications, etc. Through evaluation of this data, the Planner Engineer must create quotation packages, documents, drawings, and processing plans for the purpose of meeting customer requirements. The Planner Engineer is expected to work cooperatively as a member of an Project Engineering Team that includes Project Engineering, Tool design, Document Control and Planner Engineering

  • Possesses the ability to thoroughly understand and interpret complex engineering drawing and associated parts lists.
  • Plan manufacturing operations to facilitate production of Details for Assemblies (DFAs) and Assemblies in support of customer requirements and delivery schedule.
  • Create and maintain accurate Bill of Material (BOM) requirements for DFA’s and Assemblies in support of customer requirements and delivery schedule.
  • Update planning as required for all purchase order/customer engineering changes or for all method improvement/correction type changes.
  • Create re-work planning for parts or tools as required.
  • Review and approve customer engineering changes.
  • Review and approve customer purchase order requirements and changes.
  • Collaborate with project engineer in coordinating with customer and supplier engineers to ensure that all data, information, drawings, and other necessary information is available to build quality parts.
  • Initiates and coordinates writing of detailed Statements of Work (SOW), accurately defining the activities to be performed by suppliers.
  • Incorporate appropriate tolerances and specifications into all planning documents as described by the Purchase Order and Engineering Drawings.
  • Assist in writing detailed work instructions to accomplish job in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • Ensure DASNY's compliance with ISO 9002 by providing required control and documentation steps and sign-offs.
  • Train other employees as requested or required, especially with respect to flow down of customer requirements.
  • Coordinate the necessary information with other engineers to make corrections or improvements to planning, tooling, programs or processes.
  • Review and approve requests from manufacturing for new CNC programs and changes to existing programs.
  • Support Manufacturing and other departments as an internal customer.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime as necessary.
  • Acceptable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required by the position.

  • Must have experience utilizing CAD/3D software; CATIA preferred but will train.
  • Requires proficiency in the design and manipulation of spreadsheet data. Excel preferred.
  • Experience in the utilization of project management software strongly preferred.
  • Strong business acumen required with respect to manufacturing processes especially as they relate to sheet metal, tooling, fixtures, jigs and assembly. Integration of this knowledge initiates process flow and tool design conceptualization.
  • Must possess strong computer skills, i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, & Adobe
  • Technical writing skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of aerospace company specifications and practices preferred.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication, machining, forming, and welding preferred.
  • Ability to manage numerous projects and meet deadlines as required.
  • Ability to work independently and a good memory for detail
  • Must be able to interact and communicate professionally with levels of the organization.
  • Read and understand internal procedures and policies.
  • Must possess the ability to understand, follow through and implement actions from verbal and written instructions.
  • Team oriented with a continuous improvement outlook.
  • Able to learn and adapt to new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk or sit.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Annual baseline hearing test is required.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in manufacturing of sheet metal parts or in the aerospace industry.

Safety glasses, safety shoes and other designated personal protective equipment as required for the position.
  • Working conditions are: 80% office and 20% manufacturing environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat; and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate and occasionally loud.
  • Hearing protection is required in designated areas.
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
  • Fully enclosed shoes of solid, leather construction with a steel or composite toe cap (ANSI Z41 compliant) must be worn in all manufacturing areas.
