This position is being offered through the SUNY System Administration Sponsored Programs Office, an operating location of The Research Foundation for the State University of New York, a private, nonprofit educational corporation supporting research, education and public service at the State University of New York.
Function and Scope: Under the supervision of the Co-Directors, the Production Assistant will provide editorial and administrative support to the production department of the State University of New York Press (www.sunypress.edu).
- Prepare book and journal manuscripts for production, including setting up project folders, preparing production cost estimates, requesting estimates from printers, and checking image file quality.
Assist production editors in maintaining project workflow, including checking the status of projects, problem solving, keeping detailed notes, documenting project progress, and communicating with authors, independent contractors, and vendors as necessary.
Maintain all files related to the production department, including cover samples, special series, vendor/independent contractors, tables of contents and Library of Congress/Copyright Office registrations.
- Provide general clerical support including photocopying, filing, and phone coverage.
- Proofread as requested, including printed book cover samples, copyeditor queries, text and cover proofs, first typeset proofs, and indexes.
- Prepare and distribute notices of books reviewed in SUNY Press journals to publishers.
- Prepare tables of contents for posting to the SUNY Press website.
- Special projects as assigned.
Baccalaureate degree; at least 2 years of progressively responsible clerical experience; flexibility, time management, problem solving/troubleshooting skills essential. Basic working knowledge of Windows and MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Access. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, and Photoshop a plus.
Salary: Mid-High $20's DOE
