DataGen, a subsidiary of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is seeking a Programmer Analyst  for our KeySTATS National team. DataGen offers a variety of health care data analytics, software solutions, and support to individual hospitals, state hospital and health care associations, and multi-state health care systems. This full-time position reports to the Senior Director and is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining software applications, add-ins, and modules to enhance user experience for the KeySTATS National analytic products and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains software applications, add-ins, and modules to enhance user experience for the KeySTATS National analytic products and services using VB, VB.Net, C# or another programming language

  • Modifies legacy programs that utilize SQL, Visual Basic and advanced Excel macro functions

  • Contributes to the production of DataGen’s analytic tools to make the products more user-friendly based on client and internal feedback, and incorporates changes in content

  • Interprets given specifications and completes programming tasks assigned by group leaders

  • Maintains legacy applications to stay current with programming languages that are compatible with industry standards

  • Anticipates future team and client needs and proactively seeks solutions for improved productivity and user experience

  • Interacts with clients to provide customer support and training on new and existing programs

  • Acts as the DataGen liaison with clients for software and technical issues

  • Prepares and updates written procedures and conducts group and individual training sessions for the use of the products

  • Interacts with staff and clients to clarify specifications and works collaboratively on creative problem solving



  • Associate’s or higher level degree in computer science, information technology or a related field

  • 2+ years of experience in a position involving application programming in a professional environment

  • Proficiency in Visual Basic (VBA and VB.Net), C# and advanced Excel programming (macros and file import/export)

  • Proficient in at least one other software language (e.g. JavaScript, .NET, HTML/XHTML, XML)

  • Additional proficiency in at least one database language (e.g. SQL, R, SAS) preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with external clients and internal teams

  • Highly motivated self-starter with ability to multi-task
