Publication and Research Coordinator Position, Mount Ida Press, Albany, NY

The publication and research coordinator will work with the president and project manager on the creation and the publication of corporate and institutional histories and books on the history of architecture and the construction of skyscrapers. Research tasks will include searching online databases, occasional travel to archives and libraries, transcribing documents, and writing reports.


The coordinator will also work on the APT Bulletin and Communiqué, APT’s bimonthly electronic newsletter. He or she will be responsible for communicating with clients and authors, filing, keying edits, coordinating advertising and peer review, and tracking the status of articles.


The coordinator will also be responsible for the day-to-day running of the office. He or she will answer the telephone, order office supplies, update social media, answer emails, and keep the office running smoothly.



The successful candidate will be resourceful, exceptionally well-organized, detail-oriented, meticulous, computer savvy, and quick to learn. He or she will be able to switch gears quickly and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities. 


Excellent writing, word-processing, and other communication skills, as well as online historical-research experience, are required. The coordinator must be able to assume responsibility and be comfortable with the stress of deadlines. Professional telephone and email demeanor and the ability to work well with other organizations and consultants are essential.


A bachelor’s degree and professional work experience are required; a master’s degree would be an asset. An academic background in historic preservation, architectural or art history, history, material culture, English, or a related field is preferred. Experience with publishing, historic preservation, building construction, and the use of primary source materials would be important additional assets. This position has regular weekday hours and a benefits package. Salary level will be based upon skills and experience.
