Research Scientist I

The Research Scientist I will join a team of public health professionals to work on multiple CDC cooperative agreements to develop robust, population-based estimates of the prevalence of congenital heart defects and various neuromuscular conditions. These studies will help to better understand the survival, healthcare utilization, and long term outcomes of adolescents and adults affected by congenital heart defects and neuromuscular conditions.
The incumbent will participate in problem definition, planning, and execution of congenital heart defects and muscular dystrophy research. Analytic databases of pooled data will be used to perform analyses, interpret results, and make written recommendations. Other responsibilities include assisting in the preparation of reports, presentations, posters, tables, charts, graphs, and manuscripts based on data analysis. The incumbent will perform literature searches related to muscular dystrophy research, and collaborate with senior staff to develop independent research projects. He/She will also assist with the collection, organization, management, and evaluation of project related data and attend committee meetings and conference calls to discuss data collection, methods, and analysis. Other related duties as assigned. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Salary Min USD $53,875.00/Yr.

Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related field and two years of research experience; OR a Master's degree in an appropriate field and one year of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications :
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related field. Experience in data management, research, surveillance, and data analysis. Applied skills in SAS, GIS, and spatial analysis. Experience conducting survival analysis, multi-variable logistic and linear regressions with SAS software. Knowledge of birth defects, reproductive, and/or rare disease or pediatric epidemiology, and experience writing manuscripts for scientific journals.
Conditions of Employment :
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
