School Controller/Business Office Supervisor, Queensbury Union Free School District

The Queensbury Board of Education is accepting applications for the position of school controller/Business Office supervisor, effective June 4, 2018. The position comes with a benefits package and a salary range of $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience.

Under general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Business or other administrator, an incumbent of this position assists in the business management activities of the school district, and has responsibility for one or more phases of the financial and operating activities of the school district, including accounting, payroll, purchasing, budgeting and reporting.

Activities are carried out in accordance with school district policies, with considerable leeway for independent judgment and action within established policies. 

Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel in the Business Office. 

Position does related work as required.



Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in accounting, business administration or related field and four (4) years of business administration experience which must have included accounting and fiscal duties, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; or
(b) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered community college with an Associate’s Degree in accounting, business administration or related field and six (6) years of business administration experience which must have included accounting and fiscal duties, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred Candidate Qualifications:

• Strong accounting experience/background and demonstrated commitment to the field through ongoing professional development and professional affiliations
• Strong supervisory experience
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communications
• Creative problem solving and strong personal skills

The successful applicant will demonstrate the following performance knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics.
Thorough knowledge of:

  • Accounting methods and budgetary procedures
  • The techniques of monitoring expenditure of funds

Good knowledge of:

  • Business administration procedures
  • The techniques of solving financial problems
  • The principles of cost analysis

Working knowledge of:

  • The principles of personnel supervision
  • Purchasing and inventory practice

Skill in:

  • Organizing and consolidating narrative and tabular information into a clear, logical, fiscal plan
  • Communicating effectively both orally and in writing

Ability to:

  • Plan and coordinate the work of others
  • Identify and anticipate financial problems and needs
  • Readily acquire familiarity with laws, regulations, and policies
  • Identify and set priorities
  • Interpret financial reports

Full-time, 12 month position. Starting salary $75,000 - $85,000 plus excellent employee benefits and NYS retirement.

Position will be filled based on Civil Service requirements. A provisional appointment will be made with examination to be held at a later date. Candidates must meet civil service
