Job Description:

The College of Arts & Sciences is seeking to fill a Staff Assistant position with the University in the High School (UHS) Program.  This position will provide support for programmatic and administrative functions.  This position will also be responsible for managing the Upstate NY Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) and UHS annual workshops. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with University faculty, staff, and students, to advance the goals of the UHS Program.  The candidate must have excellent writing, administrative, and interpersonal skills as well as proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.  The successful candidate must be organized and efficient, a self-starter, and able to prioritize multiple tasks and work requests.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee the Upstate NY Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS)
  • Manage JSHS finances
  • Process payment and reimbursement requests, and track expenditures within various accounts
  • Coordinate workshop logistics
  • Provide updates for the JSHS website


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • At least one year of administrative office experience, with evidence of organizational skills, efficiency, initiative, and attention to detail
  • Experience planning and managing large events
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and multiple tasks simultaneously    
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience working with a culturally diverse population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree or equivalent from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • Experience at a university, college and/or academic department setting
  • Experience working with IAS/PeopleSoft   
  • Experience with bookkeeping
