Student Intern - Office of the Actuary (Summer 2018), New York State Teachers' Retirement System

The Office of the Actuary is seeking a student intern to work approximately 25 hours per week during the summer. Working hours are flexible, however they must be during the System's normal business hours. 

The student intern will assist the staff in the Office of the Actuary with preparing data, charts, and graphs for the various annual disclosures. 

The duties for the student intern in the Office of the Actuary will include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Enter and review data in the valuation database. 
  • Run programs, review results and report results to senior actuaries. 
  • Compile documentation and files for audit purposes. 
  • Create programs in R software to replicate current results from programs in SQR. 
  • Assist with testing of migration to MS Office 2016. 
  • Participate in such other statistical and actuarial tasks as assigned. 


Student interns must be full-time, college students enrolled in a graduate degree program or entering their junior or senior undergraduate year in a specific field such as engineering, business, finance, mathematics, accounting, economics, marketing, communications or a related field.
