System Administrator/Manager of Research Computing

Working with faculty in the Department of Computer Science (CS), the System Administrator/Manager of Research Computing will maintain and upgrade the department’s computing environment to support teaching and research goals. Duties include: providing technology support for CS faculty and students, managing CS department teaching and research labs (with 40+ workstations running Mac OSX and UNIX/Linux, HPC systems, and several robots), deploying lab computer images, installing software applications, maintaining hardware, department servers and virtualized servers, and providing HPC and tier 2 Linux support for CS Department and College faculty.
BS/BA (IT-related field preferred), minimum of three years experience in systems administration, preferably in an academic setting (UNIX/Linux and Mac OSX networked environment), superior trouble shooting skills, and strong interpersonal skill is required. The position also requires a working knowledge of Linux on a wide array of platforms, knowledge of systems administration automation, parallel and distributed software tools and platforms, (such as job schedulers and MPI), experience with backups, RAID storage, NFS, ZFS, virtualization, monitoring tools, email, wikis, Apache, HTML, firewalls, and multiuser remote access via SSH and other tools, supporting programming languages, IDEs, drop boxes, version control, and SQL databases. Knowledge of Windows Active Directory preferred. Candidates must be able to work efficiently and cooperatively with faculty and students, must be willing to provide support during non-working hours, and to coordinate coverage with ITS during vacations. Candidates must also be safety conscious and able to work with a diverse group of individuals.
