Description

Schools sometimes get summer surprises—unexpected teacher-hiring needs. Life happens. Plans change. New teachers are needed! Now is a good time to test the waters and see if there’s a teaching job out there that’s just right for you!

Southern Teachers (ST) helps some of the nation’s most outstanding independent schools as they seek talented teachers and coaches for their talented students. Schools are always looking for articulate leaders who can motivate and inspire teenagers in and out of the classroom, who want to become vital members of inclusive, supportive school communities. If you have a strong collegiate academic record in areas applicable to middle and high school curricula, you may have the gifts schools are looking for—especially at this time of year!

ST candidates have earned degrees in math, literature, science, history, engineering, world languages, technology, and others fields. Some have degrees in secondary or elementary education. ST candidates are hired at all sorts of schools – day, boarding, single sex, coed, rural, urban, nonsectarian, and faith-based – with diverse students and school cultures.

ST lists over 3000 openings each year at nearly 600 independent schools throughout the South.

ST’s services are personal, proven, and free!

Qualifications

For middle and high school positions, schools hire teachers based on their undergraduate (and graduate!) degrees in applicable subject areas and their gifts for connecting with teenagers. While holding state licensure/certification can be a plus, it’s not a hiring requirement for upper-level teaching positions.
Specific training is expected in some areas:
• Elementary-grade teachers and learning specialists must hold state licensure.
• Certification is preferred for art, physical education, and music teacher positions.
• Librarians and media specialists must hold an MLS or comparable degrees.
• School counselors must hold advanced degrees in counselor education
