The Vice President for Finance and Administration reports directly to the President of the University, is a member of the President's senior leadership team, and serves as chief advisor to the President and other senior staff on campus fiscal, operational, and administrative issues.

Direct reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration include eight administrative units representing 650 employees:

  • Financial Management and Budget

  • Facilities and Capital Construction

  • Controller (including Accounting, Procurement, Institutional Services, Internal Controls, Parking and Mass Transit, and the Student Loan Service Center)

  • Human Resources Management

  • University Police

  • Internal Audit

  • Environmental Sustainability

  • The University's Auxiliary Services Corporation

She/he serves as the primary liaison to the State University of New York System Administration, the Office of the New York State Comptroller, and other agencies and control bodies regarding fiscal, administrative and operational matters.

Through the direction of Division operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing strong creative and collaborative leadership for the University's fiscal, operational, and administrative affairs in support of the mission and goals of the University

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating the University's annual operating and capital fiscal plans; evaluating and advising on the financial and operational impact of policy options; and providing expert advice along with fiscal and operational policy recommendations to the President and University leadership

  • Ensuring compliance with relevant institutional and SUNY policies and procedures, and federal, state and local regulations applicable to the financial, operational, and administrative activities of the campus

  • Stewardship of the University's financial strategy and models; identifying and recommending opportunities to the University that will maintain or improve funding streams; and leveraging the University's available resources for maximum impact. This includes close coordination with the SUNY Research Foundation, University Auxiliary Services, The University at Albany Foundation, and Empire Commons.

  • Developing a culture of excellence in which Division operations are effective and efficient through continuous process evaluation and redesign, adoption of new technology solutions, assessment of best practices, and communication with internal and external constituencies

  • Cultivating positive working relationships across the University to promote a culture of customer service, innovation, and quality services

  • Ensuring that campus activities are carried out in a safe and healthy environment and that internal controls and procedures are appropriately identified and implemented

  • Representing the University on internal and external committees, task forces, and affiliated organizations

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field (such as Public Administration, Business, Accounting, Finance, Higher Education Administration) from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization

  • A minimum of 10 years of success in progressively responsible leadership positions and a record of accomplishments in financial management and administrative operations

  • Experience and understanding of the mission, challenges, and governance of large public higher education institutions

  • Knowledge of the best practices employed in higher education financial, administrative and operational functions

  • Evidence of the ability to think creatively and strategically with proactive problem solving and consensus/team building skills

  • Skill in working collaboratively with community partners and government agencies

  • A collaborative, inclusive, and collegial leadership style; personal integrity; demonstrated good judgement, intellectual curiosity; superior communication skills; resilience; energy; and commitment to the mission of the University at Albany

  • Applicant must address in their application their ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization or comparable credentials

  • Familiarity with the issues and functions in the areas under the jurisdiction of the position

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with governmental agencies, internal governance bodies and industry
