Microfinance Internship and Job Links

Below are links to resources for students interested in microfinance. Microfinance is the practice of providing basic financial services to low-income clients including individuals, organizations and communities. Various types of microfinance service providers have emerged including: non-government organizations/non-profits, cooperatives, community-based development institutions (e.g., credit unions), commercial and state banks, and insurance or credit card companies. Microfinance programs may be funded by loans, grants, philanthropists, social investors, local banks, foundations, or governments. Interested students are encouraged to volunteer with a microfinance organization, either in the U.S. or abroad, get to know the borrowers may serve, work in a small business, and be generally familiar with the economic development industry. Contact the Career Center for additional assistance identifying opportunities of interest.
