Summary:

The EHS Compliance Technician is responsible for all aspects of the College’s occupational and environmental law and regulation compliance efforts. Areas of responsibility include: hazardous and universal waste, fire prevention, employee safety training programs, and inspection of grounds/buildings to assure code compliance and safety. The EHS Compliance Technician is responsible for maintaining files related to regulatory agencies, including OSHA, USEPA, NYSDEC, and NYSDOH, for filing federal and state reports and OSHA 300 logs, and for managing and overseeing the training of students in the College’s Emergency Medical Services (UCEMS) club. The Compliance Technician also serves as Chair of the Union College Employee Safety Team which reviews monthly injury incidents and develops injury prevention controls.

Qualifications:

The position requires an Associates degree in Occupational Safety & Health or Safety Management or an equivalent degree and 3-5 years’ experience with OSHA recordkeeping and USEPA & NYSDEC environmental compliance regulations, and an OSHA 10 or 30 hour certification plus a certification to provide CPR and First Aid training. Candidates should be familiar with requirements of OSHA, USEPA, NYSDEC, NYSDOH, and NYS Fire Codes, and associated record keeping and filing of permits. Candidates should possess good communication and writing skills, and be safety conscious and able to work with a diverse group of individuals. Certification in environmental, OSHA and/or life safety from a nationally recognized organization such as the National Safety Council is desirable, as well as familiarity with various computer programs, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, and Photoshop. Must be flexible with hours for emergencies related to EHS issues.
