Student Leadership on Campus
In connection with their academic focus, LIM students participate in research on campus as well as internships in the Schenectady and Albany areas. They also take part in a wide variety of campus clubs and activities, including:
Athletics: LIM students who were involved in sports during high school also participate in Union Athletics, including cross country, football and soccer.
Best Buddies: Union has a large, active chapter of Best Buddies, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.
Concordiensis: More than a source of news, the College newspaper is the voice of the students and a forum for public debate.
Greek life: Many LIM students are involved in campus fraternities and sororities, which sponsor philanthropic and other activities throughout the year. They take learship position in the Interfraternity Council, which sets guidelines and policies for Union’s fraternities, and the Panhellenic Council, which governs sororities. Healing Spaces: This group brings joy to seriously ill children by creating a home healing environment intended to minimize the stress of hospitalization and aid in the recovery process.
Kenney Community Center: Union College's Community Outreach Department is a hub for volunteering and outreach in the local community. The Kenney Center coordinates ongoing programs and one day community service opportunities on and off campus.
LIM Student Council: The SC is made up of two or three representatives from each LIM class on council to improve the program and enhance communication among students, faculty and staff.
Shakti: This group encourages South Asian cultural awareness and education and provides on- and off-campus social alternatives for all students.
Smoking cessation clinics: LIM students can get training and certification to hold smoking cessation clinics at the Schenectady Free Health Clinic, Alpha Pregnancy Center and Bethesda House. Speakers Forum: The Forum brings diverse speakers to campus to provide a range of perspectives that are intellectually stimulating as well as entertaining.
Student Forum: The principal form of student government at Union, the Forum consists of elected officials and appointees from major college committees. Forum members are responsible for allocating all Student Activities funds, appointing college and student committees, and overseeing all student committees.
