Meet the Staff


Christopher Hayen

Director

Responsibilities: Chris oversees all facets of safety and security provided to the campus. He serves as the principal college official responsible for the administration of policies, procedures, data collection, and reporting to ensure compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act as amended by the Campus SaVE Act and Title IX. He has been a member of the Campus Safety Department since 1988 after attending Herkimer County Community College. Chris began his career as an officer and has managed all aspects of the department on his way to the leadership role. Chris has a daughter completing her doctorate degree and a son working in municipal law enforcement. He volunteers regularly for charity running events and coaches a travel baseball team. Some Notable Continuing Education: Certified Zone 5 NYS Department of Criminal Justice Public Safety Officer, Certified Zone 5 NYS Field Training Officer, Certified NYS Municipal Police General Topics Instructor, Certified Title IX Investigator, International Association for Campus Law Enforcement Administrator Certifications, Northeast Colleges and Universities Security Association Certifications. Besides membership in various law enforcement associations Chris is a member of the Schenectady County Community College Criminal Justice Board and the Local Emergency Planning Committee.

Thomas Constantine

Associate Director

Responsibilities: Responsible for overseeing the activities of administrative personnel, assisting in development of security training programs, evaluating personnel, coordinating with local law enforcement agencies, promoting positive community service and relations with the entire community, and working with the Dean of Students Office. He serves as a co-investigator to ensure compliance with Title IX, and the Campus SaVE Act, and is a certified Civil Rights Investigator. Tom works with various offices at the college to ensure the institution’s compliance with the Clery Act. He attended Schenectady County Community College and Buffalo State College. Mr. Constantine retired from the Niskayuna Police Department after a successful 20 year career. He left his post as Director of Homeland Security / Emergency Management for Schenectady County to join the staff here at Union College. He and his wife live in Niskayuna. They have a daughter in Navy flight school, a daughter pursuing undergraduate studies, and a son in high school. Continuing Education: Specialized training in crime prevention, community policing, and the use of science and technology in the investigation of major criminal activity. FBI National Academy DCJS Master Instructor - Specializing in the areas of physical fitness, defensive tactics and officer safety. He is New York State Police trained in investigation of child abuse, family violence, and sex offenses.

Gary Olsen

Traffic and Transportation Department

Responsibilities: Mr. Olsen has been a member of the Campus Safety Department since 1994. He oversees the Traffic and Transportation Department, providing traffic enforcement and transportation to the college community. Janice Underwood

Information Systems Specialist

Responsibilities: Ms. Underwood coordinates and supports the information systems for the department, including the reporting and Card Access systems. She has been a member of the Campus Safety department since 1988. Ed D. Teller

Responsibilities: Sgt. Teller is the day shift supervisor. He has been employed with the Campus Safety Department since 1988. He is a life long Schenectady County Resident. AAS degree Criminal Justice from SCCC, 8 years service in NY Army National Guard as Military Police Officer, Certified NYS Department of Criminal Justice Bike Patrol Officer, Certified Zone 5 Police Supervisors Course

R. Michael McCrary

Responsibilities: Sgt. McCrary is the evening shift supervisor. He has been with the Union College Campus Safety Department since 1989. He was previously with the GE Plant Protection Department. AAS Degree Criminal Justice from HVCC, New York State Fire Training Instructor, DDC Instructor (Defensive Driving Course), Volunteer Fireman, EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician)

Lisa Simmons

Crime Prevention

Lisa is a retired City of Albany Police Officer. She has 20 years experience in Law Enforcement, Crime Prevention and Community Relations. During her service to the City of Albany, Lisa helped develop and implement various Department Services, establishing her well based knowledge in the field.
