A Letter from Chairman John E. Kelly, III '76

Dear Members of the Union Community:

For the past eleven years, we have benefited from the service and leadership of President Stephen Ainlay and Mrs. Judith Ainlay. They have become fixtures in the Union community, building close relationships with students, faculty, and staff as well as Trustees, alumni, and the many friends of the College. They have also built close relationship s with many in the Schenectady community . It is hard for me, and probably many of you, to imagine Union without the Ainlays but I write to announce that President Ainlay has informed the Board of Trustees that 2017-18 will be his last year of presidential service at Union. Happily, we will continue to enjoy the Ainlays ' service and leadership during the upcoming year as we conduct a presidential search.

I have asked Trustee Kelly Williams '86 to chair a search committee to begin a national search. We will meet with the many constituencies of the College in order to shape the profile of the ideal next President. Union is a remarkable institution and enjoys considerable momentum. We are confident that the presidency of our College will be an attractive position to many qualified candidates.

Working with the Ainlays, we have accomplished a great deal in the past eleven years and I fully expect that we'll accomplish more in their final year and in our next institutional chapter. We have revitalized our campus infrastructure and work will continue on the integrated science and engineering complex. We've witnessed record support through our "U are Union" campaign and other endeavors and we expect this to continue. We've seen record interest in Union, as evidenced by applications and early decision requests, and our reputation continues to grow and our increasingly salient niche in higher education bodes well for our future.

We have every reason to be grateful and every reason to be optimistic.

Thank you for all that you do to support Union. Please accept my very best wishes.

John Kelly III '76

Chair of the Union Board of Trustees.
