Learning Environments

Learning Environments supports technology-enhanced learning spaces and instructional facilities such as the electronic classrooms, the Schaffer Library Learning Commons and Digital Studio, the Kelly Computing and Innovation Lab (Wold 010), the Imagine Lab (Wold 118) and a 24 hour iMac workstation on the first and second levels of Wold. We install and maintain both the computing equipment and the audio-visual equipment in these physical environments. We provide design and configuration assistance to departments interested in developing instructional facilities within their locations. We provide training and orientation on the use of the electronic classrooms.

In addition, we also support the audio-visual needs throughout campus by delivering equipment to classrooms and other spaces that are not already equipped with technology. Special events such as conferences, guest speakers, films, Convocation, Founders Day, Graduation, Parents & Homecoming Weekend, and ReUnion Weekend are also some of the events supported by Learning Environments.

The Learning Environments office is located on the first floor of Steinmetz Hall, within the Learning Technologies and Environments suite in room 110.

The Digital Studio (second floor, Schaffer Library) consists of four unique spaces designed to primarily support faculty exploration of existing and emerging technologies: the Faculty Computing Resource Center (FCRC), the ConnectIT Lab, a Production Booth/Studio, and an Isolation Booth/Whisper Room. Union ID cards are required for access to these labs, which are available during normal Schaffer Library Business hours. Many classrooms across campus have instructor and student computers available for use. These electronic classrooms are located in the following buildings or halls: Arts Building, Bailey Hall, Karp Building, Olin Building, Science and Engineering Building, Steinmetz Hall, Lippman Hall, Taylor Music Center and Peter Irving Wold Center. These rooms may be scheduled through Central Scheduling.

Each of the seven Minerva Houses have seminar rooms that are equipped with technology which allows for faculty to use a laptop or play a DVD or VHS tape. These rooms may be scheduled through Central Scheduling.

Union College has several computing facilities available for public access. The Learning Commons (first floor, Schaffer Library), STAT Lab is located on the (second floor, Schaffer Library), and Learning Lab (second floor, Schaffer Library) these areas function as an open public lab with Macintosh and Windows computers for students and is available during normal Schaffer Library Business hours. There is one 24 hour iMac workstation located on the first and second level of Wold.

The ITS Help Desk is designed to be the primary point of contact for user support. Its purpose is to receive problem reports, requests, and questions regarding computing at Union College.
