Library Access
Staff members have access to Schaffer Library’s rich collection of books, journals, newspapers, databases, and more. Library hours change based on whether classes are in session or not. To see up-to-date hours, visit the Schaffer Library Hours webpage. Note that access to the building is ID-card only during evening and weekend hours during fall, winter, and spring terms.

Use the library’s website to start your search and connect to our online resources or view information for your in-person visit. You can search for physical and digital resources in our collection using our catalog, Primo. Some particular areas of interest include:

Catch up on current reading
The Current Reading Area, containing a selection of new and popular titles, as well as the most recent issues of some popular magazines and newspapers. Find this area in front of the Lally Reading Room and next to the printers when you first enter the library.

Your own free subscriptions to digital newspapers & magazines
Personal accounts for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Chronicle of Higher Education. We also have subscriptions to PressReader, which covers more than 6,000 newspapers, and Flipster for access to many popular magazines.

Access to 600+ databases
Over 600 Databases, such as Alexander Street Press, Adam Matthew Explorer, and other historical databases for primary and secondary resources, and Academic Search Premier for thousands of magazines and journals.

Access to streaming media
Databases for streaming media, including Docuseek for documentary films, Music Online: Contemporary World Music for over 150,000 albums, and Met Opera on Demand for audio and visual of opera performances.

Free access to Bloomberg Concepts course and certification
The Bloomberg Terminal, a computer system for real-time financial data analysis, trading, and news, and free access to the Bloomberg Market Concepts course and certification. The Bloomberg Terminal is located off of the Learning Commons.

Copies of the Union College yearbook (The Garnet) are available at the Circulation Desk and at Special Collections.
Note: you will need to use your Union login information (Single Sign-On) to access all electronic resources. These resources are available from off campus.

Mandeville Gallery Resources for Staff
The Mandeville Gallery is located on the second floor of the Nott Memorial and is free and open to the public 7 days a week. The gallery is dedicated to exhibiting nationally recognized contemporary artists that explore current and historical cultural themes.

The Union College Art Permanent Collection (UCPC) holds over 3,000 works of art, objects. and items of material culture, including significant cultural resources from Eastern, Ancient, and Pre-Columbian cultures, historical scientific instrumentation, and artwork from internationally recognized artists.
