Union Student Invited to Join Asia Arts NY Concert

Willow Melton, Music and Anthropology double major, class of '28 completed an excellent ethnographic study of Asia Arts New York and their recent performances celebrating Lunar New Year for Professor Jennifer Matsue's class Mapping Musical Lives: Ethnography of the Performing Arts. Willow has been invited to join their upcoming concert, “A Music Dialogue on the Silk Road,” on March 22 at The Egg – Swyer Theatre (see the trailer for the event here).

Wei Qin, President of Asian Arts New York (www.asianartsny.org) explains that this concert brings together musicians from different musical traditions, creating a musical dialogue that celebrates cultural diversity while seeking connection and unity through music. She is extending a special promotion code for Union staff, faculty, and students in case anyone would like to come and support Willow and the other 14 musicians participating in the concert.

Lighting up Emerson Auditorium

Students are enjoying a new state-of-the-art lighting system in Emerson Auditorium, thanks to a generous donation from Michael DiPietro ’70 and his wife, Alice Fishman.

Overview

Union College offers a wide variety of courses in music theory, music technology, composition, music history, world music, and jazz studies. The music faculty are incredibly Interdisciplinary, and offer courses that intersect with other departments and programs across campus. Students enjoy many opportunities to perform in our numerous ensembles and develop musicianship through private lessons. We offer a Major, ID, Minor and a Global and Popular Musics Minor.
