The philosophy faculty at Union specialize in a wide variety of areas. Our doors are always open to students, and we would gladly help you decide which of our many introductory and intermediate philosophy courses would be the best place for you to start. Our faculty page has information about our faculty’s research backgrounds.
The department hosts a number of student activities, and other events that are open to the general public. Our Speaker Series features major figures in the field during every fall and winter term. All events are open to the public, and philosophy students can take a course, New Directions in Philosophy, that focuses on the work discussed in the Speaker Series. The department is also home to Ephemeris, a student-run philosophy journal dedicated to harvesting exceptional undergraduate writing grounded in the distinct value and interest of the philosophical endeavor. The Ethics Bowl team, which is affiliated with the philosophy department but open to majors in any field, debates ethical questions in competition with teams from other colleges, including recently at the National Championships. The Philosophy Club is a forum for philosophical interaction among our majors, although many of its regular events are open to all. Our student activities page has information on these and other events affiliated with the department.
