Learning Technologies and Environments

The Learning Technologies and Environments group understands the important role technology can play within the teaching and learning experience, when it is applied thoughtfully and appropriately within instructional design. We aim to assist faculty in the construction of meaningful learning experiences within both formal and informal environments. Our vision is to help our faculty create engaging learning experiences for our students, where they are positioned to connect to prior knowledge and experiences, actively construct understandings, and transfer these understandings to real world situations.

Learning Technologies and Environments consists of two groups – Learning Technologies and Learning Environments. Our collective purpose is to identify and fulfill learning technology needs in our virtual and physical teaching, learning, and research environments. Our vision is to promote the enhancement of student comprehension through the effective and innovative use and integration of instructional technology within a variety of learning contexts through superior outreach, service, and research.

LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES

Learning Technologies can provide both pedagogical and technological assistance with a wide range of software and technology tools. We also provide technology consultations, one-on-one training, workshops, and other educational technology services to support Union College faculty teaching, course management, and researching needs. If you are interested in how to best incorporate technology into new or updated assignments and projects or if you’re learning how to use a new technology tool, the Learning Technology team can provide more information and assistance.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

Learning Environments supports technology-enhanced learning spaces and instructional facilities such as the electronic classrooms, the Schaffer Library Learning Commons and Digital Studio, the Kelly Computing and Innovation Lab (Wold 010), the Imagine Lab (Wold 118) and a 24 hour iMac workstation on the first and second levels of Wold. We install and maintain both the computing equipment and the audio-visual equipment in these physical environments. We provide design and configuration assistance to departments interested in developing instructional facilities within their locations.

In addition, we also support the audio-visual needs throughout campus by delivering equipment to classrooms and other spaces that are not already equipped with technology. Special events such as conferences, guest speakers, films, Convocation, Founders Day, Graduation, Parents & Homecoming Weekend, and ReUnion Weekend are also some of the events supported by Learning Environments.
