About the Mechanical Engineering major

The Union ME program promotes collaboration, inquiry, and experimentation, with opportunities for summer research fellowships and symposium participation. Most students present at the annual Steinmetz Symposium, and some engage in research with local startups like Ener-G-Rotors or abroad at labs such as the Laboratory for Energetics in Bremen, Germany.

Mechanical engineering students lead and join active clubs, including ASME, Engineers for a Sustainable World, SAE Aero and Baja Teams, NSBE, Rocket Club, SWE, SAME, SHPE, and Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma honor societies.

About the Energy Studies minor

The Union College Energy Studies minor is designed for students in any major who are interested in energy-related issues. You will gain an understanding of the technical, economic, sociological and policy issues surrounding how we source, harness and use energy.

Students are encouraged to participate in a winter break mini-term in New Zealand, visiting power sites and meeting with local officials, engineers, environmental regulators, and Māori representatives.

About the Nanotechnology minor

The interdisciplinary minor in nanotechnology is primarily aimed at science and engineering majors who wish to become more aware of the properties of matter at the nanoscale, the potential usefulness of those properties, and their social and economic implications. It will also appeal to students interested in science and technology policy who wish to expand their knowledge of science and technology.
