Q: When can students apply for the 4+1 BMP?
A: Students can apply as high school seniors, as part of their undergraduate admission to Union College, or as a junior in attendance at Union College.
Applying as a high school senior
Q: How do I apply as a high school senior?
A: Students applying in any Round (ED1, ED2, EA, or RD) may also apply to the BMP option. They must indicate their interest in the program on the Common Application or the Coalition for College application. Applicants will be asked to provide a short additional essay explaining their interest in the program and how it will support their future academic and career endeavors. Students will be evaluated separately for admission to Union and to the BMP program, and the decisions for both may not necessarily align. Please note that if a student applies to Union College through Early Decision, accepting our Early Decision offer cannot be contingent on the BMP decision.
Q: What is the criterion for admission to apply as a high school senior? What do you look for as a high school student applying to the BMP program?
A: The BMP program is selective and quantitative in nature. While the review is holistic, students must have a recalculated high school GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students are expected to maintain a rigorous course selection throughout high school, particularly taking the most rigorous math courses during their junior and senior years. Our BMP program is test-optional.
Q: What are the prerequisite courses that must be taken?
A: While a student at Union, a student must complete the following courses with a grade of “B” or higher during their undergraduate program: one calculus course (either MTH-105 Differential Calculus with Precalculus or MTH 110 Calculus I, or a more advanced calculus course), and one statistics course (STA-104 Introduction to Statistics or Eco 243 Introduction to Econometrics).
Q: If I apply to the BMP as a high school senior and am not admitted, may I apply again while at Union?
A: Yes, students may apply again in their junior year when applications open to all qualified Union College juniors.
Q: What happens if I am admitted to the BMP program and enroll, but decide not to pursue the program?
A: Students who are admitted and enroll as BMP students may change their minds and are not required to follow through with the program.
Q: As a student who was admitted out of high school, is there another application?
A: No, there is no additional application for students admitted to the BMP directly from high school. These students will be asked to recommit to the program during their junior year at Union.
Applying as a Union College junior
Q: How do I apply as a Union College junior?
A: Students must submit an application directly to the Simon School of Business no later than May 1st of their junior year. The Simon School of Business makes the decision.
Q: What is the criterion for admission to apply as a junior at Union? What do you look for?
A: Students must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA while at Union College. Students are expected to have been enrolled continuously. No GMAT or GRE is required.
Q: What are the prerequisite courses that must be taken?

Q: Do I need to major in any specific discipline to participate in this program?
A: No, all majors are eligible.
Q: Will any of our Union coursework count toward the MS degree at Simon?
A: Yes, a student who achieves a “B” or higher in CS10X CS Core Skills at Union may waive GBA 464 at Simon. Additionally, students who achieve a “B” or higher in STAT264 Regression Analysis or ECO 243 Introduction to Econometrics at Union may waive GBA462P at Simon and instead replace that class with an approved elective class.
Q: Regardless of whether a student comes into the program through high school or as a Union junior, who will be helping me navigate the process?
A: Tomas Dvorak, Professor of Economics, is serving as the director of the 4+1 BMP program at Union and will advise students. Additionally, representatives from the Simon School of Business will be in contact with Union students. The main point of contact in the Office of Admission is Emma Gray.
