This Spring 2025 MLL Professors Bidoshi, Ferry and Ricci Bell were awarded a STEP Grant by the Modern Language Association (MLA). Among about 20 awardees selected from applicants nationwide, their proposal focuses on the integration of career-ready skills in the language class, evidencing the omnipresence of multilingualism at Union through language mapping, as well as building links to alumni who are using their language skills across the disciplines.

Cheikh ‘s new book Ahmadu Bamba and Decolonization: The Power of Faith and Self-Reliance, was published in April 2025 by Lexington Books. The book examines Bamba’s legacy as a “man of unshakable faith, a humanist, a socio-cultural reformer, and a key agent in the decolonization of minds and spaces.”

Charles was recently honored by the American Council for Quebec Studies as the recipient of the “Distinguished Service Award” for outstanding contributions to the field of Quebec Studies.
