On Veterans Day, members of the Union community are invited to write thank you notes to veterans.

The event will be Friday, Nov. 11, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Unity Lounge, third floor Reamer Campus Center.

Cards and writing supplies will be provided.

The thank you notes will be delivered to the Schenectady Veteran Affairs Clinic and the Schenectady County Veterans Agency.

The event is organized by the College’s Chief Diversity Officers, Dru Alvez and Francesca Callahan.

The CDOs suggest some additional ways to honor veterans:

  • Participate in the national Two-Minutes of Silence Friday at 2:11 p.m.
  • Express thanks whenever you see someone in uniform.
  • Call the veterans you know and thank them for their service.
  • Volunteer with an organization that provides free resources for veterans

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, began as a legal holiday to honor the end of World War I on Nov. 11, 1918. After World War II and the Korean War, the name changed to Veterans Day to honor veterans of all wars.
