General Education

Union’s interdisciplinary approach to general education prepares students to face today’s complicated, urgent problems.To take effective action, we need to understand these issues from multiple disciplinary and social perspectives.

Unlike typical general education systems that simply aim for exposure to a variety of disciplines, all three elements of Union's General Education curriculum emphasize connections between disciplines.

You'll take one of our First Year Inquiry seminars to sharpen your critical thinking and writing skills, diving into difficult problems that are open-ended and thought-provoking, require diverse perspectives, and cannot be easily resolved.

During your time at Union, as you pursue your major and minor and explore other interests, you will develop your communication skills through Writing Across the Curriculum courses. Through the Complex Questions curriculum you will expand your interdisciplinary thinking skills in Perspectives courses that engage with global challenges and questions about justice, equity, identity, and difference.
