International Advising

Beginning of Term Check-In Requirements

When Do I Need to Complete Check-In?

Beginning-of-term check-in must be completed within the first two weeks of the start of each term – that means 3 times a year total.

Students who do not complete check-in by the deadline are in jeopardy of violating status and may have their Union ID deactivated until your check-in is complete.

What Do I Need to Complete Check-In?

International Check-In must be completed in person with Heidi or Robin. Students will receive instructions from International Advising at the beginning of each term via email with a meeting link to book an appointment or instructions about check-in drop-in hours. To complete the Immigration Check-In, you will need to upload scans or clear photos of the following documents to your International Google Drive Folder:

  • Most up-to-date F-1 or J-1 entry visa stamp in your passport (Canadian citizens are exempt) and/or
  • I-94 Arrival Record from your most recent entry (NOT your travel history)

Check-in will also require students to confirm or update their current information, which may include:

  • U.S. residential address (if living in the United States)
  • US Phone number
  • Email address
  • Major
  • Program End Date
  • Parent/Guardian Contact Information

Failure to check in, report your U.S. local address (your on-campus residence), or update your address within 10 days of moving is a violation of your F-1 immigration status.

Students Studying Abroad

If you are studying abroad during the term, you are still required to complete beginning-of-term check-in.

Instead of confirming your U.S. address, you must provide or confirm your contact information while abroad, including:

  • Your phone number while abroad
  • Your email address
  • Your current address/location while abroad

This information allows International Advising to maintain accurate records and contact you if needed or in case of emergency while you are outside the United States.
