Hi! I’m Silvina and I’ve been navigating between different languages and geographies since I was born. I was raised in Salta, Argentina by Korean parents until we immigrated to the United States when I was a teenager. As a first generation college graduate, I’m deeply invested in helping all students explore the endlessly fascinating landscape of language and culture, in all its manifestations.

Biography

In addition to working in the Spanish, Hispanic and US Latino Studies Department, I am a core member of the Latin American & Caribbean Studies Program (LACS) and I am affiliated with Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program (GSW).

I earned a B.A. in Spanish Literature and International Studies with a concentration in Linguistics from the University of California, San Diego. I received my M.A. and Ph.D.in Romance Languages & Literatures from the University of Michigan.

My research interests include urban studies, environmental justice, immigration, visual culture, and Latin American film, literature, and theater.
