Prof. Vineyard Presents at Accelerator Conference

Michael Vineyard, the Frank and Marie Louise Bailey Professor of Physics and Astronomy, presented a talk titled "Research and Training in Ion-Beam Analysis of Environmental Materials" at the 13th European Conference on Accelerators in Applied Research and Technology in Split, Croatia, on May 5-10, 2019. Scott LaBrake, Senior Lecturer in Physics and Astronomy, and Heather Watson, the John D. MacArthur Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy, were co-authors on this paper.

Professor Orzel gives invited talk at American Physical Society meeting

Chad Orzel, the Gordon Gould Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, presented a talk at the April meeting of the American Physical Society. The event brings together physicists from 24 divisions and topical groups, with an emphasis on particle and nuclear physics and astrophysics. This year's meeting, focused on “Quantum to Cosmos,” was held in Denver.

Union faculty and students present at Spring 2019 Astronomical Society of New York meeting 

Union faculty Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Jennifer Carter presented a talk on "Modeling The Thermal Radiation of Exoplanets" at the Spring 2019 meeting of the Astronomical Society of New York at U. Albany, a regional meeting of the American Astronomical Society.

Christos Kakogiannis Receives Honorable Mention at 12th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics.

First year Union student Christos Kakogiannis participated in the 12th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, Nov 3-11, 2018 in Beijing, China. The competition, which is associated with the International Astronomical Union, involved over 200 students representing 39 countries including the United States and Christos's native Greece. Participants were judged on astrophysics theory, astronomical observations, and data analysis techniques.

Richie Bonventre ’08 Wins 2018 URA Tollestrup Award

Congratulations to alum Richie Bonventre ’08 (now at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) for winning the 2018 Universities Research Association Tollestrup Award. The award recognizes outstanding postdoctoral research at Fermilab or in collaboration with Fermilab scientists.
