Union receives trio of CASE awards

Publication Date

Union College has received three Accolades awards from the Council for the Advancement of Secondary Education (CASE) for publications and communications in the 2009-2010 academic year.

The College received a CASE Gold, the top honor, in the category of fundraising pieces for the 2009 “Shape Things to Come” president’s solicitation piece for the Annual Fund. Kate Potvin, senior director of Annual Giving, and members of her team worked with design partners id29 on the project. Overseeing printing and production were Joyce Chabot, printing manager, and Kathy Newell, assistant to the vice president for College Relations.

Union also won Gold in the magazine cover category for “Union Goes to Hollywood.” This summer 2009 cover featured the Nott Memorial against the Hollywood hills to illustrate a feature story about alumni who have made their mark in a variety of show business professions. Senior Editor of News and Publications Charlie Casey worked with Kris Fitzgerald of 2k Design on the issue.

The “Arts at Union” video, completed in February 2010, earned a CASE Bronze award. Casey and Associate Director of Communications Tina Lincer teamed with Creative Advantage of Schenectady to portray student and faculty engagement in all facets of Union’s arts curriculum.

Union will receive the awards at the CASE conference in Baltimore Feb. 6-8.

In addition, Union’s President’s Council brochure, a project led by Director of College Initiatives Debra Geer with design by Fitzgerald, appeared in a recent issue of Graphic Design USA, a magazine honoring excellence in design.
