Tim Olsen, associate professor of music, director of the Union College Jazz Ensemble and jazz pianist, will present a free concert at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at noon as part of the Music at Noon series. He will be joined by saxophonist Eric Walentowicz in a program featuring a number of Olsen’s original compositions as well as jazz standards by Django Reinhardt and Duke Ellington. The popular music series presents musicians in a diverse range of styles on the second Tuesday of each month.
Leah Pepe ’11 was featured in a full-page article in her hometown newspaper, the Amsterdam Recorder, about her study of health care systems as part of Union’s National Health Systems term abroad. The program combined internships at the Joan Nicole Prince Home, Albany Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit and the Capital District Psychiatric Center with seminars and tours of various health care facilities in Canada, Denmark and London.
In recognition of February as American Heart Month, Kathy Magliato ’85, one of only a handful of female heart surgeons in the world, will appear on a Barbara Walters television special on Friday, Feb. 4. Dr. Magliato joins America's most well known heart patients, including President Bill Clinton, David Letterman, Robin Williams, Regis Philbin and Charlie Rose, to discuss their experiences with heart disease, surgery and recovery. “A Barbara Walters Special: A Matter of Life and Death” airs at 10 p.m. on ABC News Tonight. Magliato is a consultant and national spokeswoman about heart disease in women. She is the author of “Healing Hearts: A Memoir of a Female Heart Surgeon.”
