Retiring professor to conduct final Union performance Friday

Victor Klimash, director of performance studies, will conduct his final concert at Union 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Chapel.

Klimash will lead the Union College Chorale, the Octavo Singers and the College and Community Orchestra in the performance of Johannes Brahms' A German Requiem. Admission is free and open to the public.

Immediately following the concert, a reception will held in Klimash’s honor at Beuth House.

Klimash started at Union in 2000. Before arriving in Schenectady, he taught for more than 22 years at Louisiana State University and served as artistic director and conductor for the Midland Music Society in Michigan for eight years.

Klimash also has been very active in the Capital Region as director of music of the Mendelssohn Club, Octavo Singers and Opera Excelsior. He served as director of music at the First Presbyterian Church in Albany.
