For the second year, the three Union a cappella groups, The Garnet Minstrelles, The Dutch Pipers and Eliphalets, will be competing against other college groups in the invitational “Thruway: A Sing Off” competition to earn the title of “Champions of the Thruway.”

The Midnight Ramblers from the University of Rochester, University of Connecticut’s Chordials and Colgate’s Dischords will be the visiting schools who will face off against Union.

Each group sings three songs, and from the original pool of competitors, two are selected to move on to the final round where they each present one song, after which the winner is declared. “Thruway” was inspired by the televised a cappella competition, “The Sing Off!”

After raising $6,000 last year in proceeds to help sponsor low-income housing projects, all benefits from this event will be going to The Community Land Trust of Schenectady. The event is co-sponsored by U-Program.

“Thruway: A Sing Off” will take place at Proctor’s in the GE Theater on Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold daily in Reamer on Feb. 12 to March 2 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., as well as through The Community Land Trust of Schenectady and Proctor’s. Tickets are being sold for $15. Click here for more details.
