Two Union students took honors at the 11th annual Upstate New York Russian Language Olympics. Catherine Ziac ’14 and Erin Waterman ’14 placed second in the Beginner and Intermediate categories, respectively.

This year’s team also included Lacey Reimer ‘15, Jared Mondschein ‘14, Sabeha Syeda ’14 and Anastasia Selivanova (a language assistant). The competition was held at Hamilton College.

As part of the competition, students recite a poem from memory, give a monologue about themselves, respond to spontaneous questions and read a text they have not seen before. Next year’s competition will be held at the United States Military Academy in West Point.
