faculty celebrate Homecoming and Family Weekend with everything from historic tours to discussions and tailgating.

“We’re very excited to welcome more than 1,500 people to campus for the weekend,” said Marna Redding, director of Alumni Affairs. “Activities will showcase our beautiful campus, with something for all ages.”

Among the Homecomings highlights is the inaugural Tour of Historic Union set for 2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, starting in front of Grant Hall. Developed by alumni, staff, faculty and students. Tours highlight the importance of Union’s grounds as the first campus developed with a comprehensive plan. The tour will visit each building on Joseph Ramee’s original plan, including the six that the French architect personally designed.

Other weekend events include:

  • Career discussion panel with members of the President’s Council 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Friday in Olin 115. Some of Union’s prominent alumni will discuss their own career paths and give insights into their respective fields and how a Union education helped them along the way.
  • Student Media Union Reception at 1 p.m. Saturday on the fourth floor of Reamer Campus Center. Meet the students behind Union’s media organizations including Concordiensis, WRUC, Garnet Book, TVUC, Dutch Oven and The Idol.
  • Ozone reception and sustainability discussion at 2 p.m. Saturday in Ozone House. Meet the members of the theme house and Meghan Haley-Quigley ’11, Union’s new sustainability coordinator, as they discuss the new composting program, green initiatives, renewable energy and enhanced recycling.
  • Stone Soup at 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday at Alexander Field. See how the community comes together to make a pot of soup, just like in the old folk story. The suggested donation is $5 per person, and all proceeds benefit Campus Kitchens

The Union football team takes on the University of Rochester at 1:30 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field. Union teams will also compete in women’s soccer and women’s ice hockey.
