Sound a note: Community gospel concert to fill Memorial Chapel with harmony

Publication Date

Got a passion for gospel music? Bring your best voice to Memorial Chapel this weekend for the second community gospel workshop and concert.

Over two days beginning Friday, Oct. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. singers from diverse backgrounds among the campus community and general public are invited to participate in a gospel workshop.

Under the musical direction of Rev. Shaun Whitehead of St. Lawrence University and Lyndon Walters of Union’s Heavenly Voices gospel choir, participants will learn a few spirituals and songs, along with a history of gospel music.

The group will resume rehearsals from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. At 6 p.m., the group will perform in Memorial Chapel. Last year, a number of students, faculty and staff joined with members of the community for the inaugural event.

The cost is free to students; others are encouraged to donate $20 to cover the cost of breakfast, lunch and snacks.
