Acclaimed pianist Vladimir Feltsman makes his debut at Memorial Chapel for the Union College Concert Series Sunday, March 3 at 3 p.m.

After canceling his previous engagement due to the death of his father, Russian émigré Vladimir Feltsman closes a diverse program with Mussorgsky’s keyboard masterpiece – Pictures at an Exhibition. He begins his program with Haydn’s Sonata No. 31 in A-flat Major, Hob. XVI:46 and Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, D. 537.

In demand as a recitalist, Feltsman has performed at Carnegie Hall and around the world, with recitals in Los Angeles, Kansas City, Fort Worth, Lincoln, Philadelphia, Portland and Bogota. He will perform in recital this season in New York, Miami, Palm Beach and other cities. Last summer, he continued his long association with the Ravinia Festival, where he performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Aspen Music Festival.

In 1979, because of his growing discontent with the restrictions on artistic freedom under the Soviet regime, Feltsman signaled his intention to emigrate by applying for an exit visa. He was immediately banned from performing in public and his recordings were suppressed. After eight years of virtual artistic exile, he was granted permission to leave the Soviet Union. Upon his arrival in the U.S. in 1987, Feltsman was warmly greeted at the White House, where he performed his first recital in North America.

Individual tickets for the Concert Series are $25 or $10 for students. Tickets are free to members of the campus community. Subscription packages offer significant savings. For information, call (518) 388-6080 or visit http://www.unioncollegeconcerts.org.
