Laura Persico, residence director for West College, is the Kenney Community Center’s Volunteer of the Week.

Over winter break, Persico and Professor Janet Grigsby were co-leaders of the community service mini-term in New Orleans. Each year, she also participates in the Saratoga Tour de Cure, a race to raise money and awareness for the American Diabetes Association. Through participating in Albany LUNA Chix events, Persico works to empower women to become involved in sports, specifically triathlons.

A Ravena, N.Y. native and graduate of Nazareth College with a degree in communications, Persico started the “Battle of the Beaks” service initiative to benefit the Golisano Children’s Hospital, where she also regularly served as a Better Day Buddy, working in the outpatient cancer unit.

Persico is also the interim residence director for Richmond College. A facilitator of leadership training programs for various groups on campus, Persico works with the health educator in the Counseling Center on wellness issues as well, and is currently volunteering as the assistant golf coach.
