Lauren Crupnick ’16 and Breana Derella ’16 are the Kenney Community Center’s Volunteers of the Week.

As co-chairwomen of the College’s newly revamped Habitat for Humanity, they held their first build winter term, and are currently organizing their next fundraisers. On April 14, Habitat for Humanity will host a Bowl-A-Thon, and on April 28 they will be holding a flag football tournament. Shirts will also be sold in Reamer throughout the month.

A psychology major from Dix Hills, N.Y., Crupnick participated in the community service pre-orientation program this year. She volunteers at the Kenney Center’s after school program, and is an active member of Colleges against Cancer, as well as Big Brother Big Sister. In her hometown, she has organized a toy drive through her high school for the past four years, donating them to a church and the Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York. She is also a member of the women’s golf team.

From Glastonbury, Conn., Derella is an economics major and a member of the women’s soccer team. Before Union, she tutored inner-city elementary school children and volunteered at a retirement home.

“Habitat for Humanity is a club that teaches everyone so much about themselves, our community, and perseverance. I could not be more thrilled to be part of the club’s revival,” said Crupnick.
