Alison Curley ’16 and Troy Williams ’17 were recently honored by the Schenectady Silhouettes at their annual scholarship dinner.
Curley, an Organizing Theme major, and Williams, an economics major, were each awarded the Marshall G. Jones Scholarship for their community service and academic achievement.
The scholarships are given to area college students in honor of Jones, a retired African American engineer at General Electric.
Founded in 1958, the Schenectady Silhouettes is a local African American community group whose mission is to “improve social relations and to stimulate community empowerment.”
In addition to the annual scholarships, the group supports youth programs at the Carver Community Center and the Hamilton Hill Arts Center in Schenectady.
