A psychology major and president of COCOA House, Somberg is also a member of the Garnet Minstrelles as well as a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Her work with COCOA House involves tutoring and mentoring local, at-risk youth.

While at home in Chicago, Ill., Somberg has worked the past few summers with Teach for America in various ways, as well as served as a first grade teaching assistant while in high school.

“It is important for us to create a positive learning environment for the students to encourage academic growth while building strong mentor relationships,” she said. “We are currently putting together a number of fundraising efforts in order to keep COCOA House open,” Somberg said.
