Wikoff Student Gallery to host "Greetings from Schenectady: Artworks by Teddy Benfield"

Publication Date

From May 26 until Aug. 7, the Wikoff Student Gallery will host “Greetings From Schenectady: Artworks by Teddy Benfield,” an exhibit showcasing the works of Edward Benfield ’15.

Benfield works with oil, acrylic and spray paint with a pop art aesthetic to explore American history related to pop culture, creating a visual language to represent his understanding of our national identity and generation’s cultural zeitgeist.

“I describe my personal style of painting as abstract pop art, and I get a lot of inspiration from a lot of different people and things, specifically the street art movement of today,” Benfield said.

Artists who inspire him include Retna, Pixote and Zio Ziegler. “I began painting my sophomore year and have been addicted to spending time in the studio and learning more about art and art history as a whole since then.”

The exhibit’s opening reception will be on Wednesday June 4 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Nott Memorial. For tours of the Wikoff Student Gallery, located on the third floor of the Nott, contact Alyssa Adler, adlera@union.edu.
