Valerie Barr, professor of computer science, was a speaker at Smith College for the kick off event for the school’s Teaching to Increase Diversity and Equity in STEM grant program. Barr spoke about Union’s Computer Science Department and the changes it has made to the introductory curriculum and the impact it’s had on department enrollment and the demographics of students.

Elizabeth Asch ’16 is one of 25 undergraduates nationwide to be participating in “SEA Semester: The Global Ocean.” Students are completing a six-week voyage at sea, sailing as a crew and conducting research using the Ocean Health Index. Students will observe environmental issues related to climate change, conservation and sustainability of the world’s oceans.
