More than 100 haiku aficionados from all over the world, including India, Japan and Australia, will gather for a few days of poetry, autumn beauty and artistic camaraderie this week at Union.

The College is hosting Haiku North America, the largest and oldest gathering of haiku poets.

An accomplished composer of haiku, Hilary Tann, professor of music and chair of the department, was instrumental in bringing the conference to Union.

Previous sites for the conference, held every two years, have included the Seattle Center and aboard the Queen Mary.

In his weekly column, Sports Illustrated's Peter King typically ends with a haiku. He referenced the conference in this week's column and included a guest contribution from the co-chair of the conference.
