Violinist Stefan Jackiw accompanied by pianist Anna Polonsky to perform on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.
The young virtuoso returns to the series after his stunning 2014 debut in program of Brahms’ Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100, Lutoslawski’s Partita, Saariaho’s Nocturne in memory of Lutosławski, and Franck’s Sonata in A Major.
Born in 1985 to physicist parents of Korean and German descent, Stefan Jackiw began playing the violin at the age of four. An Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, his teachers have included Zinaida Gilels, Michèle Auclair, and Donald Weilerstein. He holds a bachelor of arts from Harvard, as well as an Artist Diploma from the New England Conservatory.
Jackiw has appeared as soloist with the Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco symphonies, among others, and he has collaborated with such renowned conductors as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Ludovic Morlot, Andris Nelsons, Marin Alsop, Andrew Davis, Gerard Schwarz and Yuri Temirkanov. This season, he collaborated with pianist Jeremy Denk in performances of the Ives sonatas, in addition to solo performances around the world. He recently debuted with Atlanta Symphony and the Rotterdam Philharmonic and returned to the Chicago and Toronto symphonies and the Rochester Philharmonic.
