PRIDE walk on Saturday, expanded resources for LGBTQ+ community

Publication Date

Union will hold its fifth annual PRIDE Walk on Saturday at noon. The walk celebrates LGBTQ+ members of the Union community and beyond.

The event starts at noon in front of Memorial Chapel and ends around 3 p.m. Follow this link to see the Facebook event.

The walk is a part of a larger week of activities that included a presentation of the “Queer Monologues,” a bagel brunch and more. The walk is part of a broader effort at Union to empower the College’s LGBTQ+ community.

Part of this initiative was the formation of the Committee on LGBTQ+ Affairs, which recently launched its website, "Check it OUT." The site has resources for the campus and includes bios on the committee members.

Formed under the authority of President Ainlay, the group carries the mission of facilitating the development of a campus community that is equitable and inclusive of all sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions. Their mission states: “The committee will promote visibility, education, and will advocate for equity and equality for LGBTQ+ issues. In addition to education and advocacy, the committee will also engage in assessment and activism where appropriate. The committee will monitor the campus climate for students, faculty, administrators, and staff who identify as LGBTQ+; will review the policies and programs that might affect our LGBTQ+ community; and will advise and assist the college’s senior leadership on addressing these unique needs and concerns.”
