The Union College Theater Department is running a new rendition of "Romeo and Juliet" Nov. 2-5 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee, Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.
Tickets go on sale Oct. 19. They can be purchased at the Box Office in the Yulman Theater lobby Monday through Friday from 12:30-1:30. The evening of performance tickets are available as well.
This production is definitely not your usual Shakespeare. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where many things no longer exist, and the feud between the Capulets and Montagues continues without anyone really knowing why. Verona is now a place of rusting metal and steel and disagreements are no longer settled with swords but with machetes, axes and chains.
The cast and crew runs between 50 and 60 students of all class years. Some of the veteran performers include Cassie Padilla '17, David Thai '17 and Emily Alston '19. Professor William Finlay is directing the production alongside Professor Charles Steckler as scenic designer, lecturer Brittney Belz as costume designer, lecturer Robert Bovard as technical director and lighting design, and Yasmine Van Wilt as composer.
