Mezzo-Soprano Bernarda Fink Returns to Union

The mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink performs on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

The Series welcomes back legendary mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink with pianist Anthony Spiri after their debut was considered ‘Best of 2012’ from the Times Union and the Daily Gazette. They perform a program of Schumann’s Frauenliebe und –leben; selections from Wolf’s Italian and Spanish songbooks; Ginastera’s 5 Popular Argentinean Songs, Op. 10; and Slovenian and Argentinean folksongs.

Fink frequently appears with such renowned orchestras as the Vienna and Berlin philharmonic orchestras, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin and Dresden, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony. She regularly appears in recital at Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Berlin Philharmonie, Edinburgh Festival, Carnegie and Alice Tully Hall in New York. Last season, she performed with Anthony Spiri at the Cité de la Musique and at London’s Wigmore Hall.

Last season featured Debussy´s Pelléas et Mélisande with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic in a semi-staged version by Peter Sellars in Berlin and with the LSO in London, Mahler´s 3rd Symphony with the Philharmonia Orchestra, as well as Mahler´s 2nd Symphony with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Daniel Harding. Born in Buenos Aires, she is the daughter of Slovenian parents and attending the Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón.
